"The Rain" by Jason Zapata

It’s raining again in this world I carry
A sky of troubled clouds drift ominously
Over a turbulent sea whose waves crash
Against the windswept shore I stand on
The dull rumble of distant thunder sounds
Reverberating throughout its somber depths

My body is the boundary of this place
But I'm a stranger unwilling to understand
What this world is truly a reflection of
As the rain continues to fall incessantly
A familiar spirit traverses a distance
I never realized had grown between us

Small feet leave a long trail in damp sand
She stops once she is standing before me
Her dark robes and black hair are drenched
And though rainfall streams down her cheeks
I know she is crying when she asks me

Why won’t you stop the rain?
